English 113 Extended

 Prerequisite: Grade 10 English

Course Content: English 113 Foundational is a one semester course. Students will have opportunities to listen, view, read and discuss increasingly complex information and literary texts that represent a variety of voices and perspectives. Students will work independently and collaboratively while creating their own texts as they continue to develop learning strategies that work for them. A text can be written words, but also audio, video, digital, art, dance, music, game, etc. Students will interact, read, view and explore different ways of representing.

Grading: 
Independent Reading: 10%
Novel Study Unit: 35%
Film Unit: 30%
Writing Unit: 25%
Final mark from units will be calculated for 70% before the exam.
Final Exam: 30% (or adjusted as per attendance incentive policy).

Students must obtain a minimum mark of 60% to pass this course.
There is a final exam.
This is a required course for graduation.

Extra Help: If at any time a student is having difficulty in the course, extra help is available upon a student’s request or as determined by the teacher.

Absenteeism: Any student who misses a class is responsible for the material missed.

Note: Students are expected to complete class work and assignments within a reasonable time frame. Work that is not completed in class is to be finished during lunch hour, after school or for homework. It is necessary for students to complete the assignments, or their lack of participation will be addressed according to school policy.
